Good journalism should challenge people, not just mindlessly amuse them.

Interviews

I love interviewing people and telling their stories. It is like discovering a new world on every occasion.

She Is The Queen Of Domestic Noir! Meet Crime Fiction Author Julia Crouch!

“She stole her husband. Now she wants to steal her life” is the captivating tag line of Julia Crouch’s fifth and latest novel, Her Husband’s Lover. The Brighton-based author is known for her excellent plots full of twists and surprises. When readers buy one of her books, they can be sure to expect: a dark story about the crimes we commit against each other under the shield of love; the writer is the creator of the crime fiction genre ‘Domestic Noir’.

‘I Eat, Live And Tattoo With Chopsticks!’ Meet Hand-Poke Tattoo Artist Sarah Lu!

Wearing black rubber gloves and holding an ink bathed needle attached to a chopstick in her right hand, Sarah bends over her client’s thigh to stitch the outlines of a deer-human hybrid with an impressive set of antlers. A few stitches more and she leans back to look at her work. Sarah Lu is one of the tattoo artists at the Blue Dragon Tattoo parlour in Brighton. Specialising in what is called stick and poke tattoos, she has recently showcased her stunning works at the Brighton Tattoo Convention.

Seeing The World Through The Eyes Of Miniature People! Meet Paul Rowlands!

A massive wave is splashing over the groynes of Brighton’s flooded Undercliff Walk. The white water masses contrast with the clear blue sky. In the middle of the massive water paddle on the ground, there is a tiny little fisherman, standing in a beer bottle top and reaching out with his fishing-rod. The man behind this impressive photograph which immediately makes you stop and pay close attention is multi-media artist and passionate photographer Paul Rowlands.

‘ I Am In Love And I Can See The Dangers Of Being In Love.’ Who Is The Woman Behind Madame Senorita?

A red nose, a painted face, funny shoes… that’s the usual image that pops up in our mind when someone says ‘clown’. But is that really what being a clown is all about? Believe me, it’s not! With her surreal clowning show “The Expector”, Paula Valluerca will soon make Fringe-goers realize that there is far more to being a clown than just putting on a thick layer of make-up. After last night’s show, we talked to Paula and here is what she told us about the upsides and downsides of being a clown.

Every writer I know has trouble writing.

Shorter pieces of writing

A report on a new exhibition in town. A listicle on where to find the best coffee in the neighbourhood. Or simply a little entertaining piece of writing.

About Me

I'm Laura, an aspiring freelance journalist and content creator specialising in travel, food, culture, environment and people. I have experience writing for online publications, magazines, old-school newspapers and radio programs and have published reports and features in German, French and English.

The journalist in me: Being where the action is and telling people's stories.

I am a seasoned interviewer who loves uncovering the extraordinary in the lives of ordinary people and chatting to artists and musicians about their inspiration and background. As a field reporter for a French local newspaper, I have covered events such as festivals, conferences, art expositions, inaugurations of public buildings and ceremonies.

The traveller in me: Enjoying nature and discovering new places, food and culture.

After having backpacked through two continents and having lived in three different countries, I am now based in Germany (my home country) and looking to establish myself as a freelance journalist and content creator. When I am not stuck at my desk trying to make a living, you will probably find me hiking or trekking with my dog Smokey Joe or making plans to explore Europe by car. Travelling is my big passion and I would love to be a travel writer one day.

The language lover in me: Fluent in English, French and Spanish and learning Italian.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Languages (French and English) and have learnt Spanish while backpacking and volunteering in South America. I am currently teaching myself Italian and dreaming of being able to pronounce the word "buongiorno" with a nice Italian "R".

That's Me, in a nutshell:

  • Current Mission: Getting established as a Freelance Journalist and Content Writer.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in French and English, additional classes in Journalism.
  • Skills: Reporter, Feature Writer, Interviewer, Translator, Content Creator, Creative Writer.
  • Languages: German, French, English, Spanish. Learning Italian.
